Abstract Drinking motives have been identified as important predictors of alcohol consumption. Similarly, the degree readiness to change (RTC) can predict behavioral changes when drinking alcohol. However, link between and RTC has not explored in previous research. The aim this study is investigate whether four (coping, enhancement, social, conformity) three stages (precontemplation, contemplation action) relation Two hundred fifty-two undergraduates’ students completed an online self-assessment survey on Qualtrics that assessed for use, behavior, RTC. Hierarchical regressions showed among specific motives, coping significantly predicted all RTC; conformity positively action stage change; social negatively precontemplation enhancement were significant predicting stages. These results indicate levels be by coping, but motives. Additionally, given importance it might useful address include healthier mechanisms part clinical interventions prevention methods circumvent unsafe behaviors independent a single stage.
